Speed junkies will be revving up at the thought of 24MB broadband - which is what newcomer Be is promising for London within three months. Be is promising that it’s broadband will be the fastest in the UK, and that it will use London as a launchpad to roll out the rest of the country.
Be says that it can achieve these impressive speeds by taking advantage of local loop unbundling, and ADSL2+ technology.
Higher speeds are likely to be great for all the internet TV stuff that’s been in the news recently, as well as things like wide area networking and media downloads. Before we all get too excited, connection speeds will still depend very much on the state of local telecommunication networks, and Be has not (as yet) released its pricing scheme.
24MB just sounds SOOOOOOO fast at the moment - the scary thing is that it will probably sound ridicuously slow in just a few years time, like a 28.8K modem. Here’s to a breakneck future!
