Pipex and the Hoff

Is it my imagination, or has Pipex changed their logo to an England flag? Maybe they’re jumping on the World Cup bandwagon, or maybe just being patriotic? If they’re jumping on the World Cup bandwagon, then England seems a particularly dodgy option [mental note - update this after Saturday’s match!], which might explain why they’re hedging their bets by allying themselves to that all-German hero David Hasselhoff.

Yes, Pipex has announced that ‘the Hoff’ is the front man for their new marketing campaign, and have crowned the cult star ‘King of the Internet’.

David Hasselhoff is reported to have said (in that stulted, manufactured tone reserved for press release quotes): “I’m delighted to be such a hit on the web and to be crowned ‘King Of The Internet’. It is a great way for me to stay in touch with my fans across the world and I’m thrilled to be working with Pipex on this new campaign.”

The ‘King of the Internet’ tag is based on some Pipex research which found that the Hoff is the male star most likely to be mentioned in emails sent by 16-24 year olds, beating Brad Pitt and Michael Jackson into second and third places. The search found that Britney Spears is the ‘Queen of the Internet’.

What a lovely couple.
