Hands-on with the Dell Inspiron Mini 9

Dell Inspiron Mini 9We’ve waited a while to get the new Dell Inspiron Mini 9 in for review, but now we have one in our hands. Alas, not from Dell (mutter mutter), but from the kind folks at Vodafone, who are offering this netbook as a freebie with a couple of its mobile broadband tariffs.

Even so, the Dell Inspiron Mini 9 is just £269 inc VAT (and shipping) for the Linux model and £299 for Windows XP – well within the reach of anyone looking for a low-cost laptop. And we rather like it. So, until we publish the full review, here’s a video that gives our first impressions.

Vodafone is offering the Dell Inspiron Mini 9 for free on both its £25/month and £30/month mobile broadband tariffs. These have a 1Gb and 3Gb monthly data cap, respectively (plus a two-year contract), and you end up paying twice the price of the netbook's RRP, but such is the way with these things.

And why is Vodafone giving away laptops with its mobile broadband tariffs? Because the Dell Inspiron Mini 9 has built-in HSDPA, of course. Here's the video:
