Smartphone review: The BlackBerry Bold 9700
Nice to see BlackBerry maker RIM hitting back at Apple this week in the latest episode of the 'grip of death' farce. It seemed a bit playground of Apple to basically say, "Yes, we've got a problem, but so have they, so ner!" Good on RIM for sticking to its guns and fighting its corner.
While Apple is obviously right when it says no company, or indeed smartphone, is perfect, some are certainly better than others. And at least you know that when you buy a BlackBerry, the first thing on RIM's mind is the phone's connectivity - whether it's by calls, texts or email. And to date there are few better examples than the BlackBerry Bold 9700.
Boasting version five of the BlackBerry operating system, the 9700 replaces the old bold trackball with a trackpad, has an improved camera (3.2-megapixel) and has a faster processor than its predecessor. And best of all, it joins the 3G party, making getting online a much nicer prospect - especially with the 480x320 pixel high res screen.
