Smartphone review: The HTC Desire

If you're currently casting your eye around for a smartphone upgrade, it's likely the name 'HTC Desire' is already on your radar. But if you're not much of a smartphone aficionado, the name HTC may not be too familiar. If you're used to the lies of Nokia, Sony Ericsson and Samsung, can you trust this oft perceived new kid on the block?

In a word, yup. The Taiwanese company has been a pioneer in the touch and wireless handheld device industry for more than a decade, originally making its name on the first Microsoft-powered smartphones, as well as the Palm Treo 650. While still making Windows Mobiles devices to this day, HTC is now becoming a household name in tech thanks to its Android handsets, starting with the original Nexus One, or 'Googlephone'.

But the Nexus One story didn't stop with the Googlephone. Instead, HTC has refined it into the Desire and released it under its own HTC brand. It now boasts the Android 2.1 operating system running on a Snapdragon processor (clocked at 1GHz), while the 3.7-inch touchscreen will ensure it gives any of its competitors a run for their money.

To see if we recommend this mobile, read the full review on our dedicated HTC Desire page.
