All I can say, is that it is about time someone saw sense and stopped these blackmailing bullies.
Andrew Crossley of ACS:Law facing Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal
ACS:Law solicitor Andrew Crossley has followed Davenport Lyons solicitors Brian Miller and David Gore into a Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal hearing this week, after the Solicitors Regulation Authority decided it had a case to answer in regard to letters it has been sending out to alleged illegal internet file sharers.
The letters, which are alleged to be threatening and bullying in nature, ask the accused to settle a payment, often around £500, so that their case will not be taken to court. The letters include evidence showing what files were downloaded and to what IP address etc. However, there have been a number of reported cases where people have paid the fines, or felt they should, despite them claiming to have no knowledge of the alleged illegal downloading. Many others have hotly disputed the allegations.
The consumer group Which? received more than 150 complaints about the letters from ACS:Law, so decided to take the case to the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA). The SRA has studied evidence from both sides, and deemed the case worthy of facing Tribunal. However, this is not a guilty verdict, just a decision to send the case to Tribunal - unfortunately, an outcome is not expected until late in 2011.
