Smartphone review: The Samsung Galaxy Mini
Price is certainly something that has kept a certain percentage of the population away from smartphones. Sure, they can do everything, but do you need to do all those things - and do you want to pay a premium to be able to do them?
In a similar way this has been a barrier to prepay customers - if you're on a pay-as-you-go mobile deal, you don't want to shell out a lot on a new handset.
If you find yourself in this situation, the Samsung Galaxy Mini may well be the answer to your prayers. It's a fully functioned touchscreen Android smartphone but it retails at well below £100, or is available free on contracts at as little as £12 per month including unlimited data.
Of course, at that price sacrifices have to be made. The white one we reviewed was pretty cheap looking and slippery in the hand, while memory is non-existent (you need a microSD card to even think about playing some tunes or taking a photo) while the screen is low res and the camera low spec.
But for the small outlay you get an Android smartphone that is simple to use, easily deals with all your social networking, email and other messaging needs, gets you online and has sat nav on board too. The Android Market is a click away too, so you can personalise to your heart's content with a massive choice of apps.
