Smartphone review: The Samsung Galaxy SII

In this kind of business, one of the most common questions you get asked is, "but which one is the best?" Whether it's smartphones or broadband deals, internet providers or dongles, the all singing, all dancing Holy Grail is what the consumer wants. And why shouldn't they?

Of course, in the vast majority of cases, there simply isn't such a thing. Whether it's shape or colour, business or pleasure, cost or feature priority, there is rarely a 'one size fits all' solution you can hold up as a clear winner.

In smartphones, all those things hold true. However, in the Samsung Galaxy SII, we've got the closest thing for a long time in terms of a hands-down front runner. Its screen, power and all round performance are absolutely fantastic.

If you want an iPhone (or a BlackBerry), of course, it's not one of those. There's no iOS, no Apple Store, no iTunes. But with more than 250,000 apps, the Android Market does pretty well - and Google's OS is no slouch either.

Also, it's a bit of a brute. With a 4.3-inch touchscreen, but just 8.5mm in depth, the I9100 Galaxy S feels a little weird in the grip and will take a bit of getting used to. Good for the fat of thumb, perhaps, but not such much for those with small hands. And while relatively elegant, it's not an overly stylish handset.

But where it matters most, it delivers. Amazing screen, oodles of power, masses of memory and multimedia functionality to die for - this really is a fantastic phone.

For our full review of this fantastic piece of kit head over to our dedicated  Samsung Galaxy SII page, where you will also find all the latest deals on the UK market as well as a video of the handset in action from Mobile World Congress earlier this year.
