Free Setanta Sports with BT broadband

BT broadband customers can now add BT’s own digital TV package BT Vision for between £14 and £20 per month depending on which TV value pack you choose. There’s no connection fee, you get a free digital TV V-box, and all packages include Setanta Sports FREE, just in time for the start of the football season!

For those of you who are not already BT broadband customers, you do need to sign up to one of their broadband packages first, then add BT Vision to your order.

BT have also launched a brand new version of their Home Hub, which uses the latest ‘N’ standard wireless technology which BT says should give you the best wireless range of any UK broadband provider. This new piece of kit is available on BT’s Option 2 and Option 3 packages.

Faster Virgin broadband for less

Virgin Media’s mid range ‘L’ broadband package has just got faster, with an increase in advertised speed from 4Mb to 10Mb. Cost is normally £24 per month, but you can currently sign up to this package (without needing to take a Virgin phone line) for £16 per month for the whole of your first year.

Of course, if extra speed is not your thing, you can also get a great deal for less as a new customer on Virgin’s 2Mb size ‘M’ broadband. If you take a Virgin phone line (£11 per month) your broadband will cost you only £4.50 for 12 months. If you don’t want to move your phone line, the broadband package costs you £9 per month for 12 months. Take your pick!

Orange launches a juicy offer

Orange have now removed the £30 set up fee on their broadband packages - currently on offer until the end of June. And for once the offer has been backdated to any new customers who signed up to an Orange broadband package from 7th June - who should see a £30 refund on their next bill.

Added to the current ‘half price for three months’ line rental offer, this makes Orange broadband a particularly tasty offer at the moment.

Just to let y’all know that we’ve launched another sister site from the Genie family (albeit still in beta), this time for online bingo. Online Bingo Genie - www.online-bingo-genie.co.uk - compares UK bingo games - there’s not much there to start with, but online bingo is one of our passions here in Genie-land (it’s what we do when we’re not playing online poker, and what stops us fixing those annoying Safari bugs on Broadband Genie), so we thought we may as well get something started with the longer term aim of delivering much more in-depth information and some cool user tools and experiences. Virgin Media’s 2Mb bundled deal is back

Virgin Media seem to be in the middle of a big marketing campaign at the moment - not content with sponsoring Big Brother, they have re-instated their bargain offer for bundled 2Mb broadband, digital TV and phone package. All this for only £9 per month for the first six months, although your phone line rental of £11 is extra. And the offer is, as always, limited to new customers. You can also save yourself £30 if you purchase this package online, which will cover the £30 set up fee. The offer is currently available only available until 12 June, so if you want broadband, digital TV and phone for £9 per month you’ll need to hurry!

Half price TalkTalk

TalkTalk’s current offer on half-price broadband has been extended until 30 June - but watch the small print. The 50% discount is only on the call plan charges. Broadband Genie’s price comparison figures include the cost of TalkTalk’s line rental, since you have to take this, so TalkTalk’s cheapest broadband option now costs £13.45 per month (Talk International Evening and Weekend @ £2.95 plus line rental @ £10.50).

The cost of calling your broadband provider

A common complaint among broadband users seems to be the cost of calls when you need to speak to someone in customer services or technical support - just read some of the tales of heartache and long hours on the phone posted by users who have reviewed their provider on Broadband Genie.

A website that might help is saynoto0870.com which lists alternative local call (or in some cases free 0800) numbers that you could try instead of 0870, 0871 etc.

We can’t guarantee that these numbers will help resolve your customer support problems, but it might be worth a try? Broadband Genie will be adding a page with broadband providers’ main contact details shortly, as part of our ongoing development of the site.
