BT is denying claims from a report featured in ‘The Register’ suggesting that the BT’s broadband service, provided through its Home Hub scheme could fall victim to hacking if customers are making a call routed over the internet.
The original report mentioned that two UK-based researchers had found “a backdoor in the router that leaves you wide open to eavesdropping, caller spoofing and other nasty attacks”.
In a statement to the Register a BT spokesperson assured customers that there was “no risk whatsoever of any ‘VoIP hijacking’ in relation to the Home Hub – we closed this theoretical exploit about three firmware upgrades ago and the purported exploit doesn’t work on the latest version.”
The latest firmware update for the Home Hub was released on 12 December 2007. However, BT have reminded customers that it can take weeks before the automatic update reaches all hubs.

Hmmm… that firmware update would explain why on 12/12/2007 I lost my internet connection and had to re-enter all the painful Homehub details back into the machine… they could have at least sent an email warning.
