Up to 40,000 subscribers to Karoo Broadband across the East Yorkshire lost their internet service yesterday following a “major fault”.
Engineers were working flat out to resolve the problem and whilst the major problems were rectified by 6.22pm the same day, there are currently still issues with ‘stale sessions’. Customers who are experiencing stale sessions following yesterday’s outage have been advised to reboot their hardware.
If monitoring continues throughout the morning customers have already been warned that the outage may close at midday.
A spokesman for Kcom, Karoo’s parent company, said it hoped to resume normal service “as soon as possible”.
Hull’s broadband service is currently under investigation from Ofcom after it noted that several Hull residents “had expressed dissatisfaction that their choice of broadband supplier was limited, unlike the rest of the UK”.

Sorry Craig. I am an indepentant I.T. person and the reason you get is only 1 meg i due to your telephone line, its quality of the wiring, it distance to your local exchange and many other factors. When telephone cable were laid long long ago broadband didnt exist. Broadband trys to deliver high speeds over old technology. It is still better than dialup. No body in the uk wil at the moment recable the full uk with fibre. Hence why you will have to make do or move some were closer to the exchange. However i spent 30 minutes fitting a master socket to my house and went from 5 meg to 7.6meg. This takes the broaband signal strigh to your router and not other house socket so you get a stronger signal and faster speeds. i have done over 30 with some drastic improvments some get full 8meg and some go from 500k to 3.5meg for expamle. Check your wiring. There only 2 wires need for telephones/broadband thats the blue and blue and white pair. orange and white is for ringing but not needed by modern telephones. Kingston try and send the fastest speed from the exchange to everybody however the wiring usally determines how much signal actually gets thro.
