Norfolk MP on a mission to get broadband to the area
Friday 21 March 2008 Norfolk Liberal Democrat MP, Norman Lamb has called for the area's county council to collaborate with ISPs and regional development agencies to finally deliver broadband to homes in the area. After being given estimates that the number of homes without broadband access in Norfolk is double the national average, standing at around a mere 1% of properties, Lamb is calling for developments similar to those that introduced broadband into rural areas in Cornwall and Scotland: Speaking on the lack of broadband access in Norfolk, MP Lamb said: "In this day and age people should not be discriminated against in this way, it is a very important principle." We use the internet for banking and some purchases. This in turn means that we have online order confirmation, statements and order despatch confirmation all of which reduces the use of paper and the associated waste.
Better services in Norfolk would also help those people who find it difficult to get to the shops or are house bound. Being able to order online and receive deliveries from the supermarkets would surely help 100s of people. Let alone allowing them to keep in touch with friends and relatives in the UK and abroad in a relatively inexpensive way.
We have tried to move to another ISP who advertise greater speeds for broadband but are unable to do so because of the very poor line speeds available in Norfolk.
Please can you continue to push for better/more lines so that we can take full advatage of the service we pay full price for and others are given the opportunity of taking advantage of the life changing benefits broadband can bring to them.
Thank you
