Virgin Media ADSL email - the victim of spam

Tuesday 14 October 2008

Following reports in August that Virgin Media's ADSL customers were suffering from an email service breakdown, limited email or total email blackout was also experienced this week.

According to coverage in Tech Watch it is believed that the email troubles were caused by an extensive spam attack. Problems occurred for around four days although it has been confirmed that no emails were lost during this time. The email hiccup affected around one hundred thousand customers on Virgin's ADSL service.

Although the problem has been fixed, it is estimated that normal service will not resume until the 30th October.
