Finding Mac compatible broadband
Being the clear second place preference when it comes to computer operating systems (behind Microsoft Windows), you'll be pleased to hear that finding Mac compatible broadband couldn't be easier.
In terms of hardware, Apple broadband is just the same as any other broadband - the same wires that come out of your wall from either BT (plus anyone who uses BT's hardware - Sky, TalkTalk, O2 etc) or Virgin Media will pop into your Apple just as easily as they would a PC. The same goes for wireless connections - Wi-Fi doesn't mind if you use a Mac or a PC!
Broadband for Apple Mac software
It is extremely unlikely now, but you may find that the software that comes with your starter pack isn't Mac compatible broadband software. You'd still be able to connect via a Wi-Fi network, but the software on the set up CD may not be compatible with your machine.
You should certainly check with the provider before you buy though, especially if you have an older version of the Apple OS previous to OS X. It always pays to be cautious, but the chances of it not being Mac broadband compatible are slim, as OS X has been around since 2002.
Apple Mac and broadband deals
You aren't likely to find any Apple Mac and broadband specific deals, as the same software and hardware comes with any broadband internet deal you may go for. The only difference will be on the files you import from the CD onto you Mac, but these will come on the same disc as the Windows files and should install automatically (or with very little fuss).
However, the good news is that this means you're privy to the same special offers that everyone gets. It's a highly competitive market, so be sure to shop around using the most important criteria for you - whether it be large download limits, cheap prices, superior extras or fast Mac broadband speeds. If it is great extras, just make sure they're Mac compatible broadband extras!
High speed broadband for Macs
Once again, if you're looking for high speed broadband for Macs, you should have no problems getting online. All the superfast fibre broadband packages from BT and Virgin Media are compatible with Apple's OS X, so you'll be up and running in no time.
As with any other internet package, you should look for a broadband for Apple Mac deal that suits your needs as well as your wallet. While it is always tempting to just go for the fastest package out there, do you really need super fast Mac broadband? If you're only surfing the net or checking your emails most of the time, a cheap deal may do. In most towns and cities, even the cheapest broadband Mac broadband is pretty nippy these days!
Mac broadband goes mobile
If you've already got broadband at home, or can't get it at all, there are plenty of mobile broadband Apple Mac options available. However, you definitely need to read the small print on some of the mobile broadband gadgets to make sure they're Mac compatible.
Things have definitely improved in recent times, but the Mac forums are full of people complaining about dongles that have connection issues for Apple Mac users. If in doubt, call your local dealer before getting a bargain online!
This is especially true if you're looking for Mac compatible pay as you go mobile broadband, as these deals tend to use slightly older dongle designs than contract deals. Don't forget mobile Wi-Fi, or MiFi, deals, as these connect wirelessly so can be much less hassle to get up and running.
