Eclipse Broadband Reviews

Switched to Eclipse broadband, then my previous phone provider made an awful mistake by deactivating the line instead during the switch over. So I only had 3 days usage of Eclipse broadband. Still the customer service insisted I have to pay for full month of usage, even though I didn't end the service in the first place.

Small phone provider + not cheap and I get this from them.

Switched to PostOffice phone and broadband service, will see what it is like but at least 1/3 cheaper. The good thing with Post office is that the phone line rental is roll over monthly contract - no 12 months deal.

Other cheapest phone + broadband providers are Sky (if you're already Sky customer) and Tesco (more points).

OK a response today. The rep dealt with my complaint in a professional and efficient manner. The matter has been resolved to my complete satisfaction, without premium rate phone calls and without foreign "script readers".

Well, two emails of complaint sent on two successive days. Nothing! Not impressed so far.

I have been a delighted customer for a couple of years now. I find their telephone support excellent and now I have a real telephone number for them, have no other complaints.

I recently upgraded to an unlimited package because I was consistently using more than my 10Gb service. I was astonished to get an email telling me I was halfway through my limit of 20Gb. I have sent an emailed complaint and am waiting to see what response I get before commenting further

    Hey All
So many comments here about "moved to another provider" BUT. . No one says who they moved to or who they recommend.
    ----------------------------------------
    for example:-

I was with this company for over a year and had loads of problems, I always got disconnections every few hours and for the money I was paying this company it's criminal.
I was more annoyed after moving to another company who are excellent and I now never have a problem.
    -----------------------------------------------
Great info for us BUT WHO DID YOU GO TO THAT IS SO GREAT?

Please - I have spent hours looking for alternatives. .
    Anyone able to recommend ?

    Cheers all
    :-)

I've been with Eclipse for about 3 years and in recent months i've noticed a serious degrading of speed. They have instituted a fair use policy that cover nearly all the day from 9am until 11pm and if this is sufficiently breached they are meant to warn the user. If this trend continues they will cap your line until the following payment month begins. The problem with this is my line was only receiving about 3mbps when it should have been around 6 and no warning message was ever sent. The first i noticed was poor performance but ued to their service assumed it was a busy day until i checked my mail to find they had capped me to 256kbps for the rest of thismonths usage, about 2 weeks. I can just about browse simple websites and trying to buffer video of any calibre is pointless.
After contacting them they try to tell me i was on a limited package although i've always been on unlimited and i should be grateful for not being charged for overuse.
Suffice to say i am now moving to BE but i've still got to live with these speeds for another week before i swap over. I wonder how they are still in business with this draconian business model. My advice is to steer clear at all costs there are so many better ISPs out there.

I pay nearly £30 per month for Unlimited downloads. In my dictionary unlimited means "no limits".

However this month they have downed my download speed because I have breached their "fair usage policy", which apparently means that is you go over a limit you are being unfair to other users. Translated; their technology and lines cannot handle what they promise you.

So beware, you sign up for an Unlimited service, pay for an Unlimited service, but you are limited by their "fair usage policy". That makes them liars.

...and I wont even get into the lack of speed versus what they promise you.

    AVOID.

Ironically 3 years ago this lot were great, I really dont know what has happened.

Following my previous comments on 24th April I can now announce a small degree of success! After many, many emails, Eclipse finally agreed to give me a credit which has the effect of reducing my monthly charge to what I believe it should be.
This was described as a "gesture of goodwill" ! Yeah, right! I've had too much hassle over this to remain with them so come October...........!! Bye, Bye! :)

My feelings about all ISPs is that they can do what they like with their customers, regardless of what they promise. Why do the goverment let them get away with their adverts, ex: "unlimited subject to fair useage," you can't have both. On downloading the best I get with a manager is 150kps, without a manager it's anything from 20kps to 45kps, where are all these MBs they promise. I could go on but the short answer is they can do what they like with their customers regarding speed and we have no one to bring them to account. It's no good changing ISPs as there all the same, there a law unto themselves. PS, In fairness to my ISP I have found their phone support good.

Been with them about 2 years, bit slow but didn't bother me overmuch.
Last October I regraded to Home select which basically gave me 10 gb download for extra couple of pounds.
After 4 months my charge went up about £3. I queried this and they said it stated that after 3 months it would go up.

This was not the case, as nowhere did it mention this. They won't ( can't?!) provide me with proof, whereas I have sent them a copy of the original options.

They do not want to know and I'm getting nowhere with them. The whole dispute is over approx £27 for the year (I just hate being ripped off!) for which they are going to lose a customer when the contract ends, because believe me I'm off!

October can't come soon enough for me!

Speed is permanently very poor and when something goes wrong they do not inform customers, just let them mess about for two days thinking it is their fault - then when connection can eventually be made there is a message ONLINE - not much use if Internet is not working ..............

Been with Eclipse for over 3 years. At first they were very good but over the last 6 months the service given is appaling. Every time you connect, they disconnect you after a minute or so to lower your speed. Certain websites seem to be sometimes blocked (mainly gaming and P2P) and their fair usage policy is a bit of a joke. Makes you wonder what your paying for! Avoid this ISP like the plague. I'm glad to say I'll be leaving them soon enough.

by Eclipse Lie to get your custom. at 14:13 on 24 Jul 2008Report abuse

I have recently moved house and Eclipse charged me £60 to move my broadband from one house to another. However what they did not tell me is that the charge was to buy out of my contract and then the cheeky fellows started a new binding contract without telling me which runs for another twelve months from the day I swapped houses.

So I could have shopped around for a better deal but we were denied that opportunity because Eclipse lied!

Having approached them regarding this matter they are not prepared to change anything and threaten court action if we do not pay our contracted broad band.

Oh and in addition the connection speed is poor and customer service is also poor.

Guess who I will not be choosing as my broadband provider next?

Basically Eclipse is a joke. Im on the 8MB package and i have to sit there whilst a standard webpage learn. I cant wait for my year to end so i can move away from them.

Over billed me the first month by nearly £80 and refused to give it back. I had to wait for it to work itself out by not paying my monthly amount! Im not sure thats even legal!

STAY AWAY, for the love of god!!!

I've been with Eclipse for about 5 months now and the service has just got worse by the month. In an attempt to get a usable download speed (via nntp) I've upgraded to the top package £29 per month and my connection has just gone downhill, at 3am I can get a good 375kbs but at any normal time of the day I'm lucky to get around 50kbs. avoid them like the plague.

i know someone who worked for eclipse internet and have heard about how rubbish they are. The problem they have is that so many things have now gone wrong they dont know where to start! their interest lies with small business customers and the residential 14.99 "cheapie" customers are just seen as a pain in the backside.
In their defence though eclipse, like many isp's are at the mercy of BT and in all honesty BT dont keep eclipse updated with delayed orders etc and often eclipse cant call BT directly.
I think if eclipse work on their current issues then they could do ok again,
but in all honesty, stay well clear for now.

Hovering between 1 and 2.3 MBPS (apart from the first week when I got 6) I, too, feel that Eclipse is taking the mickey. I am paying £18.99 for up to 8 Mbps (Unlimited) and my exchange can handle up to 6 Mbps and I live 800 metres from it. I do not exceed the fair usage policy - indicator stays green. Their only selling point is having a call centre in the UK. Response to customer service email is very slow and does not answer the questions (memories of Indian call centres!). When I complain about slow speeds even in off peak times, they apologise (two weeks later) for the fact that "some" customers have experienced problems in peak time. They talked me into paying the higher rate, but it could as well have been the lowest because surely that cannot be slower.

When I first signed up with them I was pretty happy with a stable 2 mbps. BUT, after six months I now get an amazing '1mgps' if i'm lucky. Apparently they have 'Network and ADSL connection problems' and they're fixing them.....yeah. 1mbps, good connection for a third of the day for £24.99.

i have recommended 7 people to eclipse and only got paid for 3 of them. what a rip, they promise to pay you for giving them customers but you only end up wasting several hours paying 10p per minute on the phone. i have spoken to many agents and few were helpful but ALL were sorry, no help at all. then when i had serious connection issues, my complaints went unheard and problem ignored because "i was online when i phoned them" - the guy on the line said that it seemed fine and that was that! im awaiting a mac code so i can migrate

Don't go near them! e-mail works less frequently than I do, internet access is a total lottery and download speeds are pathetic. I actually achieved faster download speeds coming off the premium package and going onto the normal tariff.

Full of promises with no delivery.

    telephone service excellent!!

very poor indeed overall, even worse than TalkTalk.

Ordered an unlimited Business 8meg ADSL Line, all went OK and to schedule. Due to work, we had one attempt to get the Line up last Weekend, and then a better attempt this Weekend. Found the Router was defective, so lost time chasing faults in the Server. Fitted a BT Router and soon had it Up and Running Today. However, it's slow, and keeps timing out!! Again, we've been chasing other faults thinking it "Can't" be the Line! We are in a unique position, as we also have a BT 8meg full-on Business ADSL Line as well, so can compare (Same Cables, Same Exchange). That BT ADSL Line is rock steady and **very** fast...near the maximum all the time. The Eclipse Line was a 2nd ADSL Line to replace ISDN, but ISDN, although slow, was 100% reliable. I do hope this is just a bad day! A little concerned at seeing "Slow ADSL" Status Reports on their Web Site...been like that since we signed up for the Line!! We'll see how this goes...now wondering if we have made the right move for the 2nd Line!

Slowest download speeds imaginable, my dialup is quicker - cannot play a mp3 ever without stopping and starting. Watching quicktime movies forget it. I upgraded to the next package - evolution 2 (£18.99 a month), just as bad. Their customer service dept. is good, have called several times. Obviously they state the cheap package puts you at the bottom of their provision. At least they are honest! It should not be advertised as speeds up to 8mbps - never ever get near this, not even 1mbps.

So far, no problems. During peak times the connection can be lost, but this isnt generally a problem (just annoying) since it only seems to happen when surfing and not whilst just downloading. Just reconnect and it's ok.
But I have nowhere near the claimed speed, which is a dissapointment (I get 2.5Mbps max).
With regards to downloading and P2P,this ISP throttles it down during peak times, but I get up early in the morning to do it and it seems fine then.
Overall, I'm reasonably pleased with this service and would tentatively recommend it to others.

Eclipse was recommended to us by a friend, who is very happy with the set up and service. It sounded like it was for us as we'd been with Orange and were not too happy with them, so decided to change....what a mistake we've made!!! It took 15 days & many phone calls before the modem arrived. Also, when we placed our order, their website showed that we could have a free router with the package we ordered, but then we were told that we had in fact placed our order too late, the cut off date for that offer was 14th Feb and their website was updated that day to show that the offered had finished....that was a lie, as it was on there when we placed our order. Eclipse would not accept this, (even though one of the advisers we spoke to was adamant that we would be getting a router, not a modem!!! When I told them we wanted to cancel the order because of the poor service and the lies I was bluntly told that I could cancel but would have to pay a £47 cancellation fee. STAY AWAY FROM THIS ISP!

This company should be brought to book for advertising download speed of 8mpps, but in reality lucky if I get 2mpps. I live 250 yards from the main telecom exchange, so I was expecting close to 8mpps. They sent me on a mission to log all my speeds over a week and when I sent them my results, they reply that my speeds are ok ?
Just general browsing, page's take and age to open and then hang, It's like a 56k dial-up connection !!
This is not good enough.....Goodbuy Eclipse... don't ring me I'll ring you.

Don't go anywhere near Eclipse if you ever want to download. Doesn't matter if you have the top end unlimited package. Eclipse throttle ALL downloads via P2P, Newsgrousp and FTP 24/7 (so even outside peak periods) to unusable speeds. And they don't tell you that in there usage policy either. And if you rase a support call they still wont tell you but will have you running round like an idiot performing lots of "Speed tests" and getting BT to check your line etc and tell you they can't find any fault!!. Made me waste nearly a month!. Thats why I and lots like me have left eclipse som after many years. Deserve to go out of business for lying and being so underhanded.
