Dongles will only work with a tablet if it's a tablet PC running Windows. There is currently no software for Android tablets or the iPad, and in the case of the iPad it lacks a USB port to connect the dongle.
There are a couple of workarounds however. You could use a mobile broadband router, which is like a normal home broadband router except it has a USB port in the rear for a mobile broadband dongle. It then provides a wireless signal which can be used by any device supporting wireless networking, including tablets.
Problem with that is it will only work at home. A similar solution which is portable would be the 3 MiFi, essentially a broadband dongle without a USB port, it just provides a Wi-Fi signal instead.
That will mean carrying around an extra device, but if you already have a smartphone you could possibly tether it over Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi tethering is built in to Android and iPhone handsets running the latest versions of their respective operating systems and simply shares the phone's data connection with a wireless signal. Only thing to watch out for when doing this is that your network provider doesn't charge you extra for tethering (3 have the 'One Plan' which includes unlimited net access including tethering).
thanks for the info mate.. good heads up before buying a tablet
