Hi. I have had BT broadband since 2005 and when we first got it we had about 500kb, and gradually this has increased up to the past couple of years when it reached about 1.8mb. however, over the past couple of years we have had many periods where the speed dropped to 100kb for weeks on end, and when connection was off for hours or sometimes days. Sometimes I manage to get on it for 5 minutes at 1.5mb and then get disconnected again for hours and back to 100kb. Lately it has got even worse at some times of day and I have tired of going through BT's processes. On both times when we got an engineer out early this year and mid last year they said that the line had problems and they would fix it, but it carries on being unreliable and slow. long letters to managers have not solved anything either. But this seems a chronic (and infuriating) problem especially since they don't seem to care and we have payed our £30 a month for some 6 years. It is now at the point where the service is so unreliable and often so slow that I don't even bother, drive up the road and use my Orange dongle to get 1mb for my work - and not easy to get a signal in our rural area. My question: what possible reason could there be for a service getting gradually worse over the past couple of years after good service when we were early adopters? - I would have expected the opposite to be the case and the service to get better and faster over time.

depends whether you got cooper or ali cables. many bt cab have different cables from exchanges.each going different routes so some are longer than others in the cab bb engineers usually mark which cable has best db reading. maybe get bband engineer out if not getting good speed in master socket. and ask for pair divert usually they will do there best. from ex bb bt engineer
