Editor - Matt PowellHi Roy,
There's no official rule, but generally a light user is described as someone who just browses the web and sends emails for short periods of time, and doesn't download large files or make heavy use of iPlayer and other streaming services. Web sites are generally very small but you have to be careful of pages with embedded audio and video files, and streaming sites like YouTube and iPlayer, as these can use a lot of data.
If you regularly use the internet in the evenings for a couple of hours you may find that a 1, 3 or even 5GB limit is not enough. 3 estimate that 1GB would give you approximately 10 hours of browsing time, so a few hours online several times a week can quickly add up.
You may want to start with a Pay As You Go mobile broadband package so if you exceed data limits you won't be charged extra, that way you can control exactly what you spend. Top up to 1GB to begin with and see how long that lasts you, then when you have an idea of roughly how much data you use you could look at the prices and consider a monthly contract.
You can compare mobile broadband services here.
