I am looking for a sim only deal, probably pay-as-you-go. The sim card will fit into a dongle which in turn fits into a mobile wi-fi unit in my car. Will a regular PAYG sim do the job? I have to use the dongle supplied. What is the best way to go or the best deal?

Try a 3 network 1Gb, 1 month expiry data sim and see how you get on with that.

You can pick one up on EBay or Amazon for less than a tenner so no great loss should it not be what you want. If it works then buy another one with a greater allowance and expiry time.

Bear in mind though as you are highly mobile in the car you will be moving in and out of coverage so expect a lot of dropped connections especially outside of highly populated areas.
Regular PAYG sims should work but there maybe restriction on connection to the 3G network.

With GiffGaff payg you can buy a pre-paid amount of data with no restriction on how you use the data.
