Hi, new to this forum but I will try to explain my issue as best as I can. My neighbour and I are both on the same exchange (non LLU) he is with Sky and I am with Virginmedia. I have had appauling speeds over the past few months and have used virgin tech support numerous times but to no avail.

Have done the following: restart router, change ADSL filter, made sure using the main BT socket, tested speed at various times and days using speedtest.bt.net. had a BT engineer out to test the line for noise....non of which have really helped.

My friend is getting the following results from BT Speedtester

    download speed - 2.65
    acceptable range - 0.6-7.5
    dsl rate - 5.89 down, 0.45 up
    IP Profile - 5

with the virgin national quote webiste saying the following

2.6 - 5.4 as the best speed promise

on the other hand, my rates ar as follows:

Download speedachieved during the test was - 1 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 0.4 Mbps-2 Mbps.
    Additional Information:
    Your DSL Connection Rate :1.63 Mbps(DOWN-STREAM), 0.45 Mbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 1.25 Mbps

The router information is as follows:
Downstream Line Rate : 1632 kbps
Upstream Line Rate : 448 kbps

    and the virgin website suggests:

1.6-4.4 would be my average speed.

I do not understand why two houses, so closely linked (literraly 4 doors down the street) would have such different ranges when both of the services are provided by BT ADSL

Any advice would be great as I am very fed up with this now

    Cheers
