    I would like to know what broadband speeds I will need to enable video calling with skype

    Skype recommends a speed of 500Kb for video calls, which isn't much at all. That seems a little optimistic to me, but if you can get a broadband connection it's going to be much faster than that anyway so you won't have an issue. The average speed of a home connection in the UK is 7.6Mb.

    Skype video calls would only be a problem if you were using mobile broadband. While somewhere between 1-2Mb is normal for MBB in an area with decent coverage it would not be unusual for it to fall below 500Kb.
