The Samsung Galaxy Tab has a price tag to match the Apple iPad, but offers up a refreshing twist on that device thanks to a packed feature set of its very own.

Armed with a seven-inch screen, the tablet features the Android 2.2 Froyo operating system, which gives users the benefit of Google apps, including Maps, Navigation and Places. Additional apps and games are also easily installed on the device too. However, boosting the potential of the Galaxy Tab over its Apple counterpart is the fact that the Samsung has a 3-megapixel camera onboard, complete with an LED flash. In addition, there is also a front-facing camera that enables the user to carry out video and web chat calling.

With the Samsung Galaxy Tab being aimed at entertainment on the go there is also a very decent storage capacity, with the model offering 16GB built-in and also being able to be expanded to 32GB thanks to a microSD card slot. Battery life is very good too; so up to seven hours of video playback means plenty of mobile movies, video and music can be viewed with ease. There’s a formidable web browser complete with support for Flash Player 10 while you’ll also find a complete suite of SMS/MMS tools and email functionality complements the multimedia options still further.

A 3.5mm headphone jack allows users to attach headphones of their choice, a pre-installed eReader on the device allows access to digital books and magazine titles all from within the screen area, while connectivity allows you to access Wi-Fi and mobile broadband within seconds, depending on network availability. At just under 12cm thick the Samsung Galaxy Tab is also sufficiently compact and bijou to fit in a bag for instant access to online activities and multimedia entertainment no matter what or where the location happens to be. Swype text input means you don’t even have to type, just swoosh your fingers across the virtual keyboard. Meanwhile, additional peripherals can be added to the Galaxy Tab thanks to a complimentary range of products just coming to market, including a plug-in keyboard.
