Bournemouth's 100 Mbps Fibre Optic Broadband to be launched in March
H20 Networks has announced the 30 homes in Bournemouth chosen to test the UK’s first 100Mb fibre optic broadband service will be connected in March.
The £30 million 'Fibrecity' project, which will see the next generation broadband service being provided through the company's patented Fibre Optical Cable Underground Sewer System, is set to become the largest in Europe.
Since the announcement in September that Bournemouth would be the chosen location for this project, around 5,600 residents and businesses havesigne to the scheme.
The first homes to be connected will benefit from a free connection and limited free service period. However, a subscription will be put into place once the engineers move out of the area and it has been estimated future connection charges could exceed a seemingly hefty £400.
However, according to H2O Networks, homes kitted out with this super speedy broadband will benefit from download times 10 times faster than standard connections. Additionally, it will give customers the chance to kit themselves up with next-gen IPTV services and remote home security.
Dundee is set to be the next location to trial the 100Mbps service.
