Dell Lightning, Thunder & Flash smartphones leak

Dell somehow let slip details of its upcoming 7” and 10” Streak tablets earlier this week, but now more information has leaked about its new Windows Phone 7 and Android smartphone plans.

First up is the Dell Lightning — a Windows Phone 7 smartphone scheduled for launch at the end of this year. The leaked photo shows it to be a sleek, if somewhat chunky, device with a two-part vertically sliding case and physical Qwerty keyboard.

The Lightning is a quad-band phone with tri-band 3G and HSDPA/HSUPA support. It runs off a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor (the QSD 8250) and has a 4.1”, 800 x 480 OLED screen, with 1GB of ROM, 512Mb of RAM and also comes bundled with a 8Gb microSD card.

The rest of the Lightning’s specifications tally with what’s so far been confirmed by Microsoft as the bare minimum for Windows Phone 7 — GPS, digital compass and so on. This is the first confirmed Windows Phone 7 device we’ve seen though, and the fact that it looks so stylish is encouraging — though how well it works is far more important, of course.

Dell is also readying two Android-powered smartphones. The Android 2.2-powered Flash is set to launch early in 2011 and it looks very smart indeed. The leaked information mentions “curved glass” for the case and the whole thing is just 11mm thick. It packs an 800MHz Qualcomm processor, along with a 3.5”, 800 x 480 screen and 5-megapixel camera.

The Dell Thunder is similarly styled but has a higher specification, with a 4.1” OLED screen, 8-megapixel camera and support for Flash 10.1. It runs Android 2.1 and uses a custom Dell UI called “Stage”, though there’s little information on what this looks like. The Thunder is scheduled for launch towards the end of this year.

As you might expect, there’s no price information for the Lightning, Thunder and Flash, but more details are available at Engadget.
