Sony VAIO P netbook now available for £470

If you were crazy bold enough to pay around £900 for the Sony VAIO P netbook last year, then get ready to give yourself a kick. Amazon is now offering the tiny laptop with a hefty discount to bring the price down to a much more reasonable £470.
We were blown away by the VAIO P when Sony unveiled it at CES 2009 and while its 1.3GHz Atom processor made it a little underpowered for the $900 price tag, its pocket size and 1600 x 768 screen made it a unique ultraportable.
Sadly, Sony applied a 1:1 dollar:sterling conversion or the UK price and we pretty much wrote it off as a result — after all, you could buy two, more capable (but not as portable) netbooks for that amount. The VAIO P is still a little pricey at the discounted price, but we think the (now) small premium is worth it.
Amazon is offering the Sony VAIO P11Z in green and white for £470, but Argos is also offering the black VAIO P11Z Q model with a nippier 1.6GHZ Atom N270 processor and 1024 x 600 screen for £500. We found the original VAIO P 1600 x 768 screen to be a little too squinty at the 8.9” size, so the Argos deal isn’t bad if you have less than perfect eyesight.
