The $100 laptop - buy one, get one free (sorta)

OLPCIt's been a long wait and the price has crept up and up, but the "$100 laptop" will finally be available this Christmas - and not just to developing countries. For two weeks from 12th November, the OLPC ' Give 1 Get 1' program will let you buy one XO laptop for $400 and your purchase also pays for a second laptop to be sent to a developing nation.

We've already heard some people moaning about the "forced charity" of the deal, but a) duh, it's a charity and b) no one's forcing anyone to buy anything. It sounds like a great way to make sure that everyone benefits from what is sure to be a hugely successful product.

The bad news is that the deal is only open to US residents at the moment and there are no current plans to make the XO laptop available through retail channels (although we doubt it'll take long for models to appear on eBay). There's nothing to stop you making a donation for a laptop, though.
