Asus announces Eee PC ultra-portable specification

Asus Eee PCUpdate: New PR shots of the Eee PC added.

The RM miniBook goes on sale in just a couple of weeks, but in the meantime, Asus has revealed the specifications of the Eee PC on which it's based.

All four models support either Linux or Windows, but it's down to the individual reseller to determine which operating system is supplied (RM will be supplying a custom version of Linux) -- and the price. Asus UK will be selling the 4G model for £219 inc VAT.

Updated: Clove Technology now has the Eee PC 4G (listed as the PC 701) available for pre-order for £219.72 inc VAT.

The range starts with the 256Mb RAM / 2Gb SSD storage Eee PC 2G Surf, and goes up to the 1Gb RAM/ 8Gb SSD Eee PC 8G. I have no idea why the low-end model is called the 'Surf' - it certainly doesn't have the optional 3G module.

The high-end models have higher capacity batteries - 5200mAh, compared to 440mAh, but Asus reckons that this only equates to 40 minutes more battery life.

Perfect for Students!!Think about it, most students need a laptop, this can be used for application such as word, excel and powerpoint with ease, stores enough space for 8GB of hard drive space. on the 8G, lets say about 5GB of space you can actually use for work documents, most documetn are no more than 4MB a scratch compared to what it can store. You can't get anything cheaper than £499 its almost half the price and well worth the money,Anyone whos a student needs something light, affordable, not rediculously priced or most importantly not over ambitious with the specification!
