Satmap launches Active 10 GPS device for walkers and cyclists

Satmap Systems has launched a new GPS device for outdoor sports enthusiasts. Aimed at walkers and cyclists, the Satmap Active 10 has a large colour screen that displays high quality topographical maps and has a robust, rugged design that makes it suitable for use in adverse weather conditions.

The device uses Ordnance Survey Explorer and Landranger maps, and not only supports advance route-planning, but shows where you've been, too. The device also logs statistics such as route elevation, time, distance and speed.

Maps are stored on SD Card and the device is ready to use from the box - it comes with free high-quality national road mapping pre-loaded as standard. Satmap's own maps for walking and cycling (created using Ordnance Survey data) are also available on SD Cards.

All 17 UK National Parks, such as the Lake District, the Brecon Beacons and the Cairngorms are currently available along with the National Trails, regional and county mapping, all in 1:25,000 and 1:50,000 scale maps.

The Satmap Active 10 runs Microsoft Windows CE 5.0 operating system and can attach photos, movies and audio recordings to maps as Points of Interest (POI) . These can be accessed when you reach the appropriate co-ordinates, which means the device can be used as an electronic guidebook, too.

The Satmap Active 10 is available now at around £299, from Blacks, Field & Trek and John Lewis stores, as well as online at www.satmap.com and www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk

A range of high quality feature-rich maps including the 1:25,000 Explorer and 1:50,000 Landranger Ordnance Survey maps are immediately available and will be sold on SD cards priced according to their size and detail. UK county maps cost £29.99 each and the National Parks cost £99.99 each.

I am interested in your Satmap Active 10 GPS for walking in the French, Italian and Swiss alps. Is it possible to obtain 1:25,000 coverage of these areas?
