First HTC Shift review at UMPC Portal

It may have been launched a month ago, but there's still no sign of HTC Shift review units in the UK. The UMPC Portal has, however, managed to get its hands on a model and has posted a review.

Having used one briefly at the launch, the Shift certainly seems to be the best take on the UMPC concept so far -- the OQO model e2 is good, but let down badly by its fiddly keyboard. The UMPC Portal reviewer likes it too, but singles out poor battery life (a mere two hours) and Windows Vista as two major shortcomings.

At £840 from Expansys, the Shift is a touch pricey and anyone looking for a low-cost ultra-portable is probably better off waiting to see the Asus Eee PC and Packard Bell EasyNote XS low-cost ultra-portables that go on sale next month.

For "launched" read "announced" - HTC is being very slow at delivering these. We're still waiting for a review unit, in fact!

You cannot use it as a phone via network operator but you can using VoIP software like SKYPE.
