Windows XP "faster than Vista"

If you’re hoping that Service Pack 1 for Windows Vista is going to turbo-charge your PC, you are likely to be disappointed, according to test results from exo.performance.network, a worldwide community of IT specialists who test Windows systems.

Using a Dell XPS M1710 PC with a 2GHz Core 2 Duo CPU, 1GB of RAM and nVidia GeForce Go 7900GS graphics card, the testers found that Windows Vista SP1 boosted performance by only 2%, while Windows XP SP3 running on the same PC was 10% faster than Windows XP SP2. Exo.performance.network also found that the Windows XP SP3 computer ran faster than the PC with Windows Vista SP1. The testers conclude that Windows XP SP3 is a “must have” for existing XP users, whereas Windows Vista SP1 is described as a “performance dud.”

No surprise here... Vista is not an upgrade! Microsoft, bring DirectX 10 to Windows XP!

There is still no reason to use Vista, so if you are buying a new PC, it makes sense to ask for Windows XP. Then you will need to buy less memory and less powerful graphics. And you programs will work, too!
