Carphone Warehouse found misleading some iPhone customers

Carphone Warehouse has been found misleading some iPhone customers over the sale of handset insurance. A BBC Watchdog investigation was started after a consumer complained that he had been told that, if he lost his iPhone and did not take out an insurance policy, he would have to pay off the original iPhone contract, plus a new contract for the replacement handset.

This is incorrect - although a new handset would need to be purchased, the original contract would still stand. Watchdog investigators visited five London stores, and in three of them, they were told the same story. The company says these were “isolated incidents.” Carphone Warehouse staff receive a commission on insurance policy sales.
