Nokia releases OS2008 operating system upgrade for N800 Internet Tablet
Nokia released the OS2008 operating system upgrade for its N800 Internet Tablet on Tuesday, which brings the device in line with the new keyboard-equipped N810. The download takes OS2008 for both the N800 and N810 out of beta and into the final production version, but the Nokia servers appear to be getting hammered at the moment though, and downloading the 135Mb file is still proving somewhat of a challenge for many owners (though mirror sites are starting to spring up).
The upgrade process is reportedly straightforward and brings a host of improvements to the N800, including a faster processor. OS2007 throttled the N800's TI OMAP chip to 320MHz in order to prolong battery life -- OS2008 lets it run at the same full 400MHz as the N810's.
OS2008 also introduces several cosmetic changes to the interface and improved web browsing with better Flash support. The final release also squashes a few bugs still present in the last beta and adds the final few features to bring the N800 release in line with the N810, including Navicore N800 Navikit support.
If you're still struggling with the download, there's a comprehensive look at its new features over at TabletBlog.com to whet your appetite.
