Asus to unveil the Eee PC mark 2 at CES next week
Asus is planning to unveil the next generation Eee PC at the CES Show in Las Vegas next week, according to The Register. The launch will take place at a Wi-Max event co-sponsored by Intel and US mobile telecoms company Sprint, which suggest that Asus' next little laptop will be Wi-Max equipped.
The other safe bet is that the new model will have a larger screen - 10in seems most likely, compared to the 7in screen on the current model. Other pundits are predicting that the Eee PC 2 will use Intel's new Core 2 Duo ' Merom' processor to reduce power consumption and cooling requirements.
A larger Eee PC-like laptop was on show at Computex in 2007 (where the original Eee PC was first announced), but it looks a little on the large side for a low-cost ultra-portable.
The Eee PC has been a great success for Asus - it's been selling around 20,000 units a month worldwide, according to Vice President Kevin Lin. Asus expects to sell 5 million globally in 2008, up two by million from its previous sales forecast.
