Leaked Windows Mobile 7 images show a distinct iPhone influence

Windows Mobile 7The InsideMicrosoft blog has what appear to be leaked images from Windows Mobile 7 -- a version of Microsoft's handheld operating system that isn't due for release until 2009.

The screenshots are from a purportedly internal document leaked from a Microsoft source and they a show a Windows Mobile that looks dramatically different to the current WM6. The incorporation of motion gestures suggests that Microsoft has drawn some inspiration from the iPhone's interface and if genuine, it will be interesting to see how they work in practice.

A long-time Palm OS user, I switched to Windows Mobile (on an HTC TyTN) several months ago and the transition hasn't been without its pain. Switching between an iPhone and WM6 really highlights how slow, bloated and just plain unpleasant to use Microsoft's best effort is and the Windows Mobile team have a tough job ahead of them if they're to match Apple's slick user interface.
