Denied a new search engine, Microsoft buys a new smartphone company instead...

Sidekick SlideSo it looks like Microsoft was clearly determined to buy something this month and now that Yahoo has turned down its $50 billion bid, it’s splashed out on a shiny new smartphone company  instead – the news currently breaking is that Microsoft has paid an undisclosed sum for Sidekick-creator, Danger.

Microsoft president of entertainment and devices, Robbie Bach, said: “The addition of Danger serves as a perfect complement to our existing software and services, and also strengthens our dedication to improving mobile experiences centred around individuals and what they like.”

There’s no more news at the moment, but it’s a safe bet that it won’t be long before a Windows Mobile-powered Sidekick makes an appearance.
