Asus Eee PC to get 8.9in screen, bigger SSD and Intel Atom processor

Asus has revealed more details about the forthcoming Eee PC with an 8.9in screen. In an interview with Laptop Magazine, Asus CEO Jerry Shen said that the new model (expected to be called the Eee PC 900 ) will be available in April/May and have a 8.9in / 1024 x 600 screen with either an 8Gb SSD running Windows XP or a 12Gb SSD with Xandros Linux (as on current models).
He also went on to say that the big-screen Eee PC will use the new Intel Atom processor – current models use an Intel Mobile Celeron chip. Shen claimed that a battery shortage is currently limiting the supply of the Eee PC, but this problem should be solved by May.
The new 8.9in Eee PC was created largely at the behest of users unhappy with the 7in/800 x 480 screen on the current model. WiMAX and HSDPA are also on the cards for Q3 2008, as are some new colours.
