Intel announces Centrino Atom line-up - five processors with Hyper-Threading and HD video support

The Atom line-up will consist of the Z500 (800MHz), Z510 (1.1GHz), Z520 (1.33GHz), Z530 (1.6GHz) and Z540 (1.86GHz). The Z540 and Z530 have a 400MHz front-side bus, the other three chips have a 533MHz FSB. All are 45nm chips and the Z530, Z540 and Z550 also support Hyper-Threading technology – the ability to run parallel threads on a single core.

Intel reckons that the Atom is the fastest sub-3 watt processor and together with the System Controller Hub chip, will support hardware-accelerated 720p and 1080i HD video decoding and high definition audio, along with such PC technologies as PCI Express.

The Atom processor will be available in the summer and has already been confirmed for use in the forthcoming Asus Eee PC 900.
