Windows Mobile 6.1 comes to HTC TyTN II

HTC has released a Windows Mobile 6.1 update for its TyTN II smartphone. Though it has been available now for a little while on the warez circuit, registered users of unlocked TyTN IIs will now be able to download the update directly from HTC. Owners of network-tied handsets may have to wait a bit longer, though.

According to a post on MoDaCo Pocket PC News forums, the update brings with it several improvements. These include a Getting Started wizard, threaded text (SMS) messaging and performance and battery life tweaks.

As well, the update apparently includes a video performance update from HTC. We’ve not yet ourselves had a chance to download or try the update but MoDaCo reckons that performance has improved. However, MoDaCo main man, Paul, reckons that the advance is nothing to get excited about, as there’s “no real video acceleration”. That said, he does conclude that, overall, the experience of using the TyTN II with the new update is “a lot slicker”. Sounds like one to check out, though note that you will need to be registered with HTC in order to grab the download. Elsewise, just use the RapidShare link over at MoDaCo.
