The ONE is not the only Elonex UMPC

Elonex ONE TElonex is on a bit of a roll at the moment. As well as the UK's first sub-£100 laptop, the ONE, it's recently announced a deal to give away its WebBook UMPC free with Carphone Warehouse mobile broadband contracts.

Now it's cooked up a ONE successor, the ONEt - 't' for 'traditional', perhaps, because it eschews the underpowered original's 'chunky' screen for a more conventional get-up that stashes the innards beneath the keyboard. Click through for more.

The Register reports that the 7in portable weighs-in at 625g, has an 800x480 display, 1GB or 2GB of solid-state storage, an SD card slot, Wi-Fi and three USB 2.0 ports. Colours include black, white, pink and day-glo green.

Sadly, any hopes of more power seem to have been dashed. Elonex says it packs a 400MHz processor, which sounds like a slightly improved version of the 300MHz LNX Code 8 currently used by the ONE.

Still, the price remains as keen as ever. £119 will bag you one + £10 delivery. And good news for those who currently have a ONE on order - they're apparently being offered the option to upgrade to the t for free.

the onet is actually being offered starting at £179 when it goes on sale, just is offered for the price of the original one at the moment, saving anyone who made a preorder £80.

There are good reasons to suspect the 400 MHz is hyperbole and the processor used in this Skytone Alpha 400 clone is the Ingenic Jz4730 SoC running at 336 MHz.Dutch hackers have demonstrated this for another clone, after jailbreaking it. They confirmed USB 1.1 support only, in accordance with Ingenic's chip documentation.

I don't think anyone has actually received a single 'one' unit of any shape or size from elonex, despite most or at least a lot of us waiting since the beginning of the year.Don't believe me? Ask elonex

Have you actually ordered one, John? I've been requesting a review unit for many months, but Elonex has been somewhat evasive about its availability.

Well in terms of ordering all was fine until last night... just 2 days before the scheduled delivery (yes they have taken payment) an email saying deliveries would be delayed until the end of August.there have been reports of some people getting deliveries - but it appears that more people have not got the device than others... I was hoping to run a comparison article for professional freelance management consultants comparing this, the eeepc, pocket surfer and some other devices.. but that is not looking promising....
