I think that buyers should note that the JumPC version of the Classmate is somewhat outdated. The latest versions of the Classmate now use the Intel Atom processor which offers an improved performance and longer battery life than the JumPcs Celeron. Also the 2GB flash drive is really too small for Windows. As soon as your PC tries to download the latest windows updates (SP3 for example) then the drive will fill up and your system will crash. You really need at least a 4GB drive for windows to run properly.
Intel Classmate JumPC lands in UK
While everyone else has been rushing out their Intel Centrino 2 laptops, a company called Actronix has been busy securing Intel's calssmate PC for UK kiddies.
The JumPC is a child-friendly lump of 7in laptop with a 900MHz Intel Celeron Mobile processor, 512MB of DDRII memory and 2GB flash memory. If that's a bit small for your requirements, there's also a 30GB hard drive version.
Both get Windows XP, squashed into an Eee-sized 800x480 display. They also luxuriate in two USB ports, Wi-Fi and a web cam.
Actronix is loading them with extra child-friendly EasyBits' Magic Desktop software and adding a leather-style handle for small hands to hang on to.
They're available for pre-order now, for delivery in August but at £239 they're not pocket money.
