Garmin's Nuvifone hits delays

Garmin Nuvifone Garmin didn't see this jam coming. Yes, it's much anticipated iPhone/Thunder/Tube rival, the satnav specialising Nuvifone, has unfortunately hit delays.

Buried in Garmin's otherwise dull second quarter results is the news that: "The nuvifone will not be available in fourth quarter as previously announced. While we had hoped to have carrier launches in the fourth quarter, we have found that meeting some of the carrier specific requirements will take longer than anticipated."

"We remain pleased with carrier interest in the device and are working toward making necessary design changes to meet their requirements. We anticipate launching the product during the first half of 2009."

So that could be up to nine months later than planned or as soon as January. That would still see it arrive later than both RIM's Blackberry Thunder and Nokia's Tube, and possibly getting into iPhone 2 launch territory.

All we can say is, it better be worth the wait.
