Apple issues iPhone 2.0.1 firmware

If you’ve not synched your iPhone today then do so and you’ll be offered the option to install the 2.0.1 version of the firmware.

It promises 'bug fixes', which is about as unspecific as any such update is ever likely to be. However, if like us you’re thoroughly sick of your iPhone crashing, stuttering and generally just being a bit rubbish stability-wise, then this should be a welcome arrival. But what of these bug fixes? More after the cut.

The iPhone 2.0.1 update is a 256MB download that takes a fair old while to install. Indeed, our test iPhone sat displaying nothing but the Apple logo for the best part of 20 minutes. We were beginning to gulp. But once done, we noticed no immediately obvious changes to the iPhone’s operation.

However, we’ve now been using 2.0.1 all day and certainly our iPhone seems a tad more reliable than before. At least, we’ve not at any point had to perform a hard reset, which previously has been a daily occurrence. Also, we’ve not experienced any keyboard lag – yet. The SMS app still takes an age to launch, though. We’ll post updates on improvements as and when we find them.
