Dell E - Inspiron 910 - launching tomorrow?

Dell Inspiron 910We've had more than a few false starts on Dell's Eee PC 901 rival, the laptop formerly known as the Dell E. Now variously called the Inspiron 910, Inspiron Mini or Inspiron Mini 9, it was rumoured to be set for launch on 22nd August. That date came and went without a murmur. Now, though, Dell itself has confirmed to Information Week that it will be arriving this week - giving impatient Dell fans a three day window to choose from.

Currently most bets are that it won't be today, leaving tomorrow or Friday. We'd usually plump for a Friday - the day that Dell usually likes to choose for their product announcements - but an article in the Wall Street Journal suggests we might not have to wait that long.

It says it was emailed by online storage service Box.net which claims its software will be on the device. In the same email, Box.net also let slip that the 910 will officially launch tomorrow.

We've still nothing official from Dell but we'll let you know as soon as we get the deets.

Annoyingly, they've only fired out the XP version in the EU at the moment. The cheaper Ubuntu variant is currently US only. The whole point behind these Netbooks is really that they run Linux to make up for the small disk size, speed and memory. Potentially enhanced productivity aside, XP is just too heavy for them (figuratively).
