OFFICIAL: Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 arrives this month
Nine months after it was first announced, we finally have an official launch date for Sony Ericsson's Xperia X1 - and we don't have long to wait. Less than three weeks in fact because X-day is Tuesday 30th September.
Just last month there had been fears that the X1 could be delayed as long as January. Things looked brighter when 'before Christmas' was mooted by a Sony Ericsson spokesman. Finally hopes were raised even further when a rep let slip it would be landing at the beginning of October - well, out by a day isn't bad.
After nine months in the speculation wilderness, Sony Ericsson's so keen to show off the final device that it's scheduled a live global webcast next week on 15th September at 2pm our time promising, "the first in-depth demonstration of the handset," though you'll have to register first at www.sonyericsson.com/premiere if you want to get in.
Those who do can look forward to seeing how, "the nine panel eco system puts the user in total control of the primary experiences available on the phone and allows consumers to personalise the panel interface to suit their needs and lifestyle," plus get a gander at, "the highest quality screen on the market, four-way navigation keys and optical joy stick to give a stressless browsing experience." Beats Hollyoaks.
Expect also to be treated to the "Alternative reality thriller", Johnny X - Sony Ericsson's stab at generating some viral marketing. Yawn.
All that's missing from the official announcement is a price and a list of network providers. While we await official word on that, Vodafone for one has confirmed that it will be carrying the Xperia - although it hasn't given any pricing details.
