Samsung's £800 R610 Blu-Ray laptop

Samsung R610Thought a Blu-Ray laptop was out of your reach? Think again. Samsung's just come out with its BD equipped R610 for a pound shy of £800.

Nudging its way into Samsung's 'Touch of Colour' range - that'll explain the red go-faster stripe - the black lacquered beauty gets a 16in screen, with a true 16:9 aspect ratio for all those HD movies you'll be carting along with you.

It'll also handle 7.1in sound - though not through its slightly underpowered 2W internal speakers. The nVIDIA GeForce 9200M GPU isn't the most powerful either but it does get an Intel Centrino 2 processor, up to 4GB RAM and up to a 320GB hard drive.

Remarkably though, it's not the cheapest big-name Blu-Ray laptop you can find. That honour goes the Acer 6920G - £699 at Currys - which also beats the Samsung on the specs. We sense a head-to-head coming on.
