Toshiba confirms launch of NB100 netbook
UPDATE: The full facts are in on the NB100 – details after the cut. But here's what we wrote earlier.
This photo is apparently a picture of the first Toshiba netbook. We say 'apparently' because we received it this morning in an email from a trusted PR source.
However, although the email was headed "Toshiba brings its quality story to netbook market", suggesting an accompanying press release, the message body was empty. All the email contained was this picture as an attachment. So, we’re pretty confident that it’s a picture of the first Toshiba netbook but we can’t be entirely sure.
We have of course emailed our contact right back to ask for more information but as we like to get stuff to you as quickly as possible, and just in case we've been the lucky recipients of an unintended leak, we thought you’d like to pore over the picture in the meantime. Sorry about the low resolution – it’s all we have right now.
UPDATE: Full specifications and price after the cut, so do click.
Toshiba has announced the NB100, which is the company’s first, though inevitable, foray into the saturating netbooks market. The specifications list reads like a roll-call of netbook parts: Intel Atom N270 (1.6GHz) processor, 8.9in screen and 802.11b/g wi-fi. Ram will be 'up to' 1GB and storage will be 'up to' 120GB hard disk drive. There’s also a built-in 0.3-megapixel webcam. It’ll be available in three colours – black, gold and silver. Pricing is expected to be around £260.
