UK BlackBerry Storm update now available

BlackBerry Storm OS updateGood news BlackBerry Storm owners! Vodafone's finally released an update for the touchscreen emailer. The new OS 4.7.0.78 promises to fix a couple of issues we've noted with the laggy accelerometer - and a tendency for the microphone to mute itself.

We'd still like to see an option added for "tap" typing, rather than the innovative but slow click method - perhaps next time Vodafone? Click on for details of how to get it.

For now the update's only available from Vodafone.de, here, but thankfully the software is multilingual so it can be installed in English. Vodafone UK says it'll have something up later today. You'll need BlackBerry Desktop Manager installed on your PC (or Windows Mac) to run it but if that’s not an option, an over-the-air version is coming some time next week, we're told.

You’ll be pleased to learn, the install retains all BlackBerry data. Unfortunately it does wipe info such as usernames and passwords from any third party apps - so be prepared to re enter some details once you've gone through the whole process, which takes roughly half an hour.

We'll have update later on how we get on installing it, but early reports are that the accelerometer response is now much faster. Happy days.

    i was just wondering if i got a new storm at the moment, does anyone know whether it would already be loaded with the latest firmware or do i still have to update it myself after purchase???

    Vodafone says the new BES (BlackBerry Enterprise Server) edition will have the latest firmware when it launches later this month. It's unlikely current Storm stock will have it loaded if you were to buy one today though.

    got an email saying version 5.0.0.451 is available for my storm but cant download it the link above takes me to a page which tells me the link is an error very confused anyone have any advice....
