Countdown to Christmas, 20 days: iBreath breathalyser
After popping up in the Telegraph this week, the iBreath breathalyser - the world's first breathalyser add on for the iPod - has become the must have accessory for all Christmas drinkers. It's just been launched in the UK and, although touted as an iPod accessory, it turns out it will work with iPhone too.
"Unofficially" at any rate, which means there's no support from maker David Steele. We can't verify their claim that "Hollywood's A-listers" have been queuing up to buy one either, but in the classic Christmas scenario of climbing behind the wheel the morning after a heavy night celebrating, or after an unusually large "small" sherry at the rellies, it could indeed save your license.
Like other pocket breathalysers, it works by reading your blood alcohol level, which should indicate whether you're legally clear to drive - though whether you're actually fit to drive is another matter entirely. While we're donning our public service hat, we should also point out that the only way to stay safe is not to drink at all - or drive, or ever leave the house. Got that?
Unlike other pocket breathalysers it includes an FM transmitter for piping tunes to your stereo, which goes some way to explain the hefty £55 price. Find them in store or direct from David Steele's US website and see the rest of our Christmas Countdown for other stocking filler ideas.
