Apple iPhone nano seen in silicone

Is Apple set to announce the iPhone nano at the Macworld Expo come the new year? Well, possibly – if you believe the rumour mill.

Remember, the rumour mill is an unreliable machine but some parts of the grindstone churn out tasty grains. Not wishing to push the metaphor too far, in this instance it’s the chaff that’s interesting, rather than the wheat. What are we talking about? Cheap silicone cases. More after the cut.

Basically, by scrutinising the case designs being churned out by Far East rubber manufacturer XSKN, people speculate as to what they might be designed to fit. In this instance, the people are the chaps at iDealsChina website and their speculation is that XSKN is making a silicone sleeve for a smaller iPhone. And that, the rumour mill says, will be the iPhone nano.

If this case design really is for a new iPhone, then expect it to be the same height at the most recent iPod nano, but a bit wider and deeper. Regardless, it’ll be a good bit smaller than the iPhone 3G, with the same contouring.

So, is this reliable information? We can’t say. What is certain is that similar speculation about the look and dimensions of the iPhone 3G that were also based on silicone case designs by XSKN turned out to be accurate. Roll on Macworld Expo!
