Huawei's Android phone ready for unveiling at MWC
As well as a GSM version of the Palm Pre, we're hoping to see one or more new Android handsets over in Barcelona at Mobile World Congress. First to promise us the goods is Huawei, which has posted on its site that it'll be showing off a, "smart mobile phone based on "Android" platform," on 16th February.
The prolific dongle-maker has made no secret of its plans to launch an Android handset - in Australia at least - but an unveiling in Europe does hint that it might be making its way here before long.
In another development, figures from analysts out this week, suggest the iPhone is outselling Android's lone T-Mobile G1 by a ratio of six to one in the States, so the platform is in desperate need of a handset that can really take the fight to Apple - not to mention the BlackBerry Storm and the Palm Pre.
Whether Huawei - a relatively unknown manufacturer in UK handset terms - is the company to pull it off remains to be seen but others might yet rise to the challenge. Samsung and HTC are expected to announce their own Android devices - and several other manufacturers, such as Sony Ericsson, have dropped hints in the past, so watch this space.
